Scoring Cuts

After scoring, slab off wood between cuts.

4. Score the first face, cutting vertical notches spaced 4 in. apart. Slab off the wood between cuts with the scoring an to within 7« in. of the chalk line.

Chop flat spot at each end of log.

2. Chop a flat spot directly over each cross beam with the scoring ax. Remove the dogs, and roll the log 180 , so the log rests on the flat spots. Dog the log on one side only, leaving the other side clear for hewing.
