Curved Tracing Jig

This jig is used to draw the curves on both the shelves and the bookcase top. The small spacer blocks can be glued to the backer board and then the thin wood strip can be held in place with masking tape.

I Attach the solid-wood edge to the shelves arid I subtops. Let the ends of the wood edging run a little long. After the glue is dry, use a handsaw to trim the overhanging ends flush with the ends of the shelves.

I Use a tracing jig to draw a curved line on the I bottom side of the shelf edging. Drawing it on the bottom side makes band-sawing easier (Photo I 3). Use a spacer board to support the tracing jig while drawing.
