Am* Adjust the clearance between the spurs on the bit and the end of the chisel to no less than V32 inch and no more than '/i6 inch. This is very important! If the clearance is too little, the bit will rub on the chisel. The resulting friction will heat the chisel and the bit, ruining both. If it's too large, the spurs won't break up the wood chips, and they will clog the chisel.
