Making The Case

With the main part of the case complete, you can now get started on tire top, as shown in the drawing at right. This is just a plywood panel with %"-wide mitered edging on three sides. The edging is softened with a Vfo" roundover, as in you can see in detail 'a.'

The top panel is then simply glued to the top of the case. In the drawing you can see how it's positioned. It's centered side to side and flush with the back.

COVE MOLDING. The final step is to add a band of molding below the top. Here 1 used a pre-made cove molding that's mitered to wrap around the front and sides (it's cut flush at the back of the case).

The cove molding adds a nice detail and purchasing the molding avoids the time and hassle it would take to make it yourself. You should be able to find the cove molding at most home centers or a millwork shop.

I glued the upper edge of the molding to the top. And i used both glue and a few brads to secure the bottom edge.

45° chamfer bit

How-To:

Stopped Chamfers

One of the simple details on the cabinet is a stopped chamfer routed on all four corners. Although this sounds difficult, it's really just a matter of being able to rout to a line.

To do this, mark a line on the corner that's even with the rails (left drawing). Then set the bit depth, as shown in die right drawing. Now rout from the bottom of the stile until the bit just touches the layout line.
