Blade Alignment

I made this rig to chcck the alignment of my tablcsaw blade with the miter gauge slot. I don't own a precision dial indicator, so I devised one using an ice pick and a continuity tester.

First, I slid the ice pick forward until it just touched the blade. Then I clamped the pick to the miter gauge. I rotated the blade, moved the miter gauge forward and checked the same spot. The lamp did not light so I inserted feeler gauges until it did. This measured how far the blade was out of alignment.

Gluing panels and other large assemblies vertically saves floor space and is easier on your back—you don't have to carry anything. Make the crossbar from 1/2-in. pipe and attach it securely to the wall. 3/4-in. pipe tees slide along the pipe. Thread the ends of 3/4-in. pipe-clamps into the tees, as shown. After tightening the hanging clamps, add additional clamps between them on the opposite side of the panel.
