Octagon Layout

To lay out the octagonal pieces of the birdhouse, I used an old drafting trick.

Starting with a square blank, set a compass on each corner and draw an arc through the centerpoint of the blank, see Fig. 1.

Then using a straightedge, connect the ends of the arcs, see Fig. 2. E3

Use square to lay out start of rounded section

Soften edges of leg

Tape holds pieces together while glue dries

Draw four arcs through centerpoint of blank

Connect end points -

of arcs and ^^V trim corners

Connect end points -
