How It Works

To give you the idea of how using these templates works, here's a listing of the guide/bit combinations used, with the differential between the outside diameter of the guide and the diameter of the bit. What I am calling the "differential" is twice the offset. When using a particular guide/bit combination with a circle template, you can calculate the size of the hole you'll cut by subtracting the differential from the diameter of the hole in the template.

You will note that NO combination gives you a '/Winch differential. Can't be done with guide bushings; the collar has to have some wall thickness. The consequence, which you will note in the extrapolated table, "Template Size Ranges," is that you cannot rout the '/Winch and 'Vis-inch increments. But you can try this: Buy a '/i-inch-I.D. x '/fe-inch-O.D. bearing and put

It on the shank of a ft «-inch straight bit. Use the bearing to guide the cut, rather than a guide bushing. (Eagle America stocks a bearing of this size: catalog number 196-0620. Call 800-872-2511.)
