The only way to achieve a perfectly flat, smooth, defect-free, film surface. other than by the technique of French polishing, is to level and rub the finish with fine abrasives. The process is extremely simple in principle and is usually worth the effort. It can be done on all newly applied film finishes (as opposed to penetrating oil finishes) after they've dried hard. Rubbing will also renew old, dull, even slightly crazed finishes.
It's important to remember that finishes can take a month or more to dry completely. You'll get best results by allowing a finish to dry for at least a month before rubbing.
Begin by leveling the dust nibs, brush lines, orange-peel spray, or other irregularities by sanding the finish with very fine sandpaper—320-grit
