Oldtime Turning

it's AW editor & publisher David Sloan! The second weekend in August, he dons old-fashioned garb and mans a treadle lathe at the Goschenhoppen Folk Festival, in East Greenville, PA. Sloan is one of many craftspeople at the annual festival, which revives old Pennsylvania German traditions. Sloan's lathe, a mid-19th-century original, is the only one we know of that has a flywheel over the operator's shoulder.
