Ryobi, the company that introduced the first portable planer, has come out with a new model that takes bigger stock and lets you more quickly change and adjust the knives. The new API 2 model accepts stock 12/if, in. wide and 6 in. thick, and it features a more powerful motor rated at 14 amps. The knife system, called "Rapid Set," uses double-edged knives you can reverse and resharpen. The planer weighs 63 pounds, and you can get a portable support stand as an option. (Price: $885)
