Dust-free, convenient tool storage is always a problem in a woodworking shop—especially a small one. This storage box for hand planes can be kept under a workbench where normal hinged lids wouldn't work.

To open the chest, the main lid lifts up at the front and slides back in a set of dados. Both pans of the lid can slide out the back and be removed.

To protect the soles and irons of the planes, the chest can be lined with laminated vinyl sheeting. This material is used on drafting tables, is resilient to cuts and has self-healing properties.
