The Skil plate joiner has all plastic construction for the base and the plastic fence allows for fixed plunging only at 0, 45, and 90 degrees. The plunge mechanism uses steel linear rails with plastic slides. Adjusting the height of the cut is awkward because it requires an Allen wrench, although one is stored in the back of the base for easy access. Unlike most other plate joiners, the dust collection bag mounts to the rear of the base and is supported by a clip on the power cord, well out of the way. The materials and construction are not as solid as comparably priced machines.
