"I onjoy turning different woods, but wf»en o friend gave me some rounds from a polm tree removed ¡n a street renovation project, I was somewhat perplexed. Unlike familiar tree trunks with annual rings, palm wood is composed of a soft, wet, pirhy substance dotted with hundreds of lough, vertica' fibers. Aher I turned a bow' on the lathe. I found that it was difficult lo jand and subject to chipping Ahor somo experimentation. I found that scraping and fcxushing ¡he surface revealed the hard fibers and fuzzy filaments that make up the interesting texture of this pece." —D.G
