i Put the blank between centres, (i)

2 Cut 1. Rough down square to the axis with the SRG, running up and down the wood until the blank is round.

3 Cut 2. Square end ot the wood with the DFG. Hint: make sure the tailstock end is flat or slightly convex so that it will sit correctly in the >aws.

4 Cuts 3 and 4. Make the spigot, mark the size of the spigot with a pencil to suit your chuck at the tailstock end. Use DFG. (ii)

5 Remove the blank, lit the chuck. Hint: make sure it is good and tight.

Cut 8a. Hollowing with the grain from centre to rim.

6 Cuts 5 and 6. Use the SRG in the finishing cut position to true up the blank if necessary. Make two cuts. One cut from the centre to the free end. then a second cut from the centre to the chuck end.

7 Cut 7. Square end, then mark the diameter to be hollowed out and the position of the foot.

8 Cut 8. With the DFG, hollow out with a series of cuts (either against the grain as per cut 8. or first rough with the grain as per cut 8a. then shape as per cut 8b). (i and ii)

Cut 9. Refining the shape with large curved scraper

9 Cut 9. Take the scraper and refine the internal shape to finish the inside. Put a slight curved chamfer at the lip. (iii)

10 Sand the inside and top to a finish, softening the inside corner, and apply the finish.

11 Cut 10. Use the DFG to shape the outside of the bowl down to l:/«in (38mm) diameter, (iv)

12 Cut 11. Clear away some more wood. Hint: make this cut as if it is the finish cut for the top of the base - which it will be eventually.

13 Cut 12. Continue finishing cuts on the bowl, blending into the stem.

14 Start sanding the outside of the bowl with 100 grit. Use it full width and work up and down the cylinder. This will remove the high points and

make it smooth. Work through the finer grits until the surface is finished. Soften the lip corner with a fine abrasive. Apply finish.

15 Cut 13. Remove more wood along the stem with the DFG.

17 Sand the stem as the finishing progresses, (ii)

Cut 15 Shaping around the curve.

19 Cut 16. Clean up the side of the foot with the DFG.

20 Cut 17. Start parting; cut down about XXin.

21 Sand and apply finish to the remainder of the goblet.
